POITOU CHARENTES is the second sunniest area of France, after the Mediterranean, averaging over 2,300 hours of sunshine a year.
The winter is short, giving a long season of good weather from March to the end of October. We often eat out in the garden in lovely warm weather in both March and October.
Spring comes early and the trees are in blossom. Summers are long and hot and can reach well over 80 degrees at times between June and September. April, May and October also provide very pleasant warm sunny days, but not quite the hot sun of June, July and August.
With this kind of weather, you get used to living and eating outdoors in the sunshine. We had this comment from our guests:WE HAD A FANTASTIC TIME IN FRANCE. The weather ranged from 25 - 36 degrees throughout the two weeks. 2009 was the hottest and driest for 60 years.
In 2006 France also enjoyed its mildest autumn for at least 50 years. Average temperatures across the mainland from September to November were 2.9°C above normal and 1.4°C above those of the exceptionally mild autumn of 2005. September in particular was remarkably warm, while October was a striking 3.3°C above the norm.
In this kind of Charente weather, SPRING and AUTUMN BREAKS can be really enjoyable.
